I was short hundreds of millions

There was an event called the flash crash. There was a fat finger in Asia, someone sold 100,000 ES mini futures instead of bought a thousand. I'm sitting there at my desk and then I just see the entire cash bond desk stand up and put their hands over their heads. And I hear someone just say It's over. And I just look at my screens BOOM. Red. Everything's flashing because I trade spreads. All of a sudden stocks crash down, bonds crash up. So now I'm short hundreds of millions of dollars. I'm short f*cking everything on planet Earth. So I'm just naked short into a bond market that's like up, more, up, up. The screen is like shrinking. That's how big the candle's getting. And I'm like oh I am completely f*cked right now. And I'm looking at the screens and I'm like, okay, I'm naked short in this thing. It's still going. Stocks went to zero for a second. There's some like unbelievable phenomenon, I'm like, I kind of have to trade out of this. When there's eventually the post mortem on this Well what'd the kid do? Well, he tried to trade out of it. Tried to save himself. Like at least spare the poor guy. My bet, right, was this is going to get one more leg worse before it gets better. So I proceeded to just pay any price I could to get the spreads. So I'm basically paying up for whatever. And then I just start dumping it back So I complete the spread and I just start selling it. But I'm paying any price. Like I'm trying to click things and the price is just doing this. I'm just trying to get things duration neutral, DV01 neutral, just to lock my spread, right? I'm just selling it back. And I'm pretty sure trading hundreds of millions of dollars in a clip. And I'm just sweating. You know, my face is white as a ghost. Boom, boom, boom. And I'm just slowly getting flat. And so as I'm doing this the market, again, this continues to break apart. But now I'm like getting out of it. I must've traded some obscene amount of bond futures, right? The dust settles. And I'm like how much money did you lose during this 10 minutes? Because at some point I was probably upside down in the $100 million range. Stock market starts to rally back. Bond market starts to come down. The rumors go through IB that it was a fat finger. I calc'd the P&L the guys from upstairs What the f*ck happened, dude? I only lost 30 grand. Dude, what happened? Ehh We're good. I had my trades paused.
