5 reasons why I go to the gym at 2.30am
and sleep in two separate chunks to make it work
yes I know it's weird
1.
I absolutely HATE a busy gym
At 2:30am, there are usually only a handful of people there and sometimes we have the whole place to ourselves
Once I experienced an empty gym, there was no going back
2.
I can train exactly how I want
I can use the equipment I actually planned to use, take proper rest between sets, film my workouts without getting in anyone's way and generally just take my time
I'm not rushing because someone is waiting for the machine or changing my workout depending on what's free
For me, it makes the gym SO much more enjoyable
3.
Working from home makes it possible
This is probably the biggest reason I can get away with such a ridiculous routine
I work from home and start at 8:30am, so I don't have a morning commute
I can get home from the gym at around 5am, shower and go back to bed before waking up for work
If I had to be showered, dressed and on a train by 7am? Absolutely not happening
4.
YES, I do actually sleep
This is probably the biggest question I've had
I normally sleep:
8pm-1:30am
5:30am-8am
8 hours!!
So instead of having one long sleep overnight, I split mine into two chunks
It's definitely not a routine I'm telling everyone else to copy. It's just what has worked around my lifestyle for the past couple of years
5.
Ultimately... it works for me
My husband comes with me, we've been doing it for around two years and at this point it genuinely just feels normal to us
A few years ago I weighed around 115kg and had a completely different relationship with exercise
I've since lost 45kg, exercise has become a huge part of my life and I've found a routine that I genuinely enjoy and can stay consistent with
