Posting my soon-to-be ex-husband in “Are We Dating the Same Guy” opened a door I wasn’t fully prepared for. So many women came forward. Messages, comments, stories and multiple women saying they had been with him within the last year. As painful as it was, I think it gave me a kind of closure I didn’t know I still needed. It made me realize just how differently we viewed honesty, commitment, and what marriage was supposed to mean. And even after all of that, I still made one last attempt to protect the girlfriend from learning things the way I had to. But eventually I had to accept something really hard: I cannot save every woman who comes after me. I can tell my story. I can be honest about what I experienced. I can leave the door open if someone ever wants to talk. But I don’t have to keep carrying the responsibility of making other people see what took me years to understand. Some lessons have to be learned in their own time. And maybe part of getting my life back is finally protecting my peace instead of trying to protect everyone else.
