Weekend at Bernie’s (1989) 🕶️🌴 Two guys. One beach house. One very dead boss. And somehow, nobody notices. Weekend at Bernie’s is one of those late-80s comedies with a premise so ridiculous that it really shouldn’t work. But Andrew McCarthy and Jonathan Silverman commit to the madness, and Terry Kiser somehow steals the entire movie while playing a corpse. Larry and Richard think they’ve been invited to their wealthy boss’s luxurious beach house for a relaxing weekend. Instead, they discover Bernie is dead and end up spending the weekend pretending he’s still alive. Sunglasses, parties, boat rides… Bernie has a surprisingly busy social life for a dead man. And the funniest part is how everyone around them just accepts it. 🎬 One of my favorite details is Terry Kiser’s physical performance. Playing Bernie wasn’t simply a matter of lying still. He had to endure being dragged, dropped, carried around and repeatedly thrown into situations where his body became the joke. His commitment is a huge reason the film works. The beautiful beach house, the summer atmosphere, the ridiculous misunderstandings and that unmistakable late-80s soundtrack make this feel like a perfect VHS-era summer comedy. It’s silly, completely unbelievable and occasionally absurd even by 80s standards. But that’s exactly the charm. And honestly, Bernie might have had a better weekend than anyone else. 😂 #WeekendAtBernies #AndrewMcCarthy #80sMovies #80s
