so how do I explain to the senior leadership team that I didn't have that much data so I just went with my gut to start just provide some context around the situation that you were given and then I will go into you know my experience and my expertise right just because there was a lack of data does not mean it was not an informed decision does not mean it was not an informed decision I would just get into explaining my thought process but again we're not being defensive here we're just trying to explain you know what went into all the factors that went into making this decision right what went into all the factors that went into making this decision right the leadership team is not putting you on the spot they're just trying to understand like okay how is this best for our company and then that leads me to the last piece which is to show how you plan to measure the outcome of this decision right what is the action plan for measuring if it was a successful decision or if it was a failed decision and how do you plan to course correct right Steve Jobs once said right some mistakes will get made along the way that's good because decisions are getting made that's good because decisions are getting made we'll find the mistakes we'll fix them to the senior leadership team to the senior leadership team it's so crucial to make them understand that our decisions are not just random guesses make them understand that our decisions are not just random guesses but they're calculated based off of our experience and made in the best interest of the company and made in the best interest of the company given the constraints we have hope that helps
