so how do I transition from project management in biotech to product management? so what we have to realize about project management and product management I'm going to make this a little bit more generic than just biotech because I think this is true for any transition into product management from project management both roles have a lot of transferable skill sets back and forth so a good project manager is most likely going to be a good product manager a good product manager is most likely going to be a good project manager let's start by just defining sort of what the roles are responsible for a project manager typically oversees the execution of a specific project with certain constraints like time, budget and scope a product manager oversees the entire life cycle of a product sometimes from concept to launch and then every release after it's launched so I would say the first part of your transition from project management into product management would be to understand what skills of yours transfer over directly so project managers are typically very good at stakeholder management, strategic planning, project coordination and solving really big hairy problems those should absolutely be highlighted on your resume and cover letter the next thing is that industry specific knowledge or that industry that you want to be a part of for you Natasha since you're in biotech that's a pretty rare skill set that not a lot of people have I mean I don't have that industry experience and I don't really know that many people who do so definitely leverage that so that industry experience and your skill set alone can set you apart when it comes to finding a product management biotech job and same thing if you've been like a project manager at a healthcare company or a finance company or a bank or you know whatever this is getting kind of long so stay tuned for part 2
