5 worst states In the US

What are the best and worst states for education in the US? I scraped data on all 50 states, all elementary schools. I made these maps where I color coded the schools based on the percentage of kids that were passing the state standard. Now see here, this is Virginia and West Virginia. You can literally see the border between these states based on all these failing red schools. This highlights the massive difference in education between states. And by the way West Virginians, West is that way. I started doing this for one simple reason. My kid is of that age and I wanted to know where she was gonna go to school. I wrote code to scrape the schools in my state. I made that code available and I was done. But it turns out that no one, not all one went and ran the code for themselves. So I've noticed some patterns as I've gone through all these states. When you open a state map, most schools are gonna be these failing red schools. That's just the US, that's how it is. So when you open up a school map like Iowa's and you see all these blue schools everywhere, it feels exactly like when you open up a report card and it's all A's. Then I got a little cynical and I thought maybe they're gaming the system, like maybe the state standard here is very easy. Well this is Iowa's kindergarten readiness. Kids should have some reading skills, some math skills, physical skills, emotional skills, and they list out all the tasks that they should be able to do. And this is West Virginia's kindergarten standard. Nothing about math, nothing about reading. And some of these things are actually very confusing, like promote social justice. So these states with a lot of good schools, they also have good standards. Best and worst, this is elementary. If you're curious about middle school or high school, my code still available.
