So there's these two kids who dropped out of Berkeley and now they're behind one of the fastest growing credit card startups. Their names are Sahil Phadnis and Aaron Bai and they agreed to start a company together on the same day they met in college. So Aaron was just 16 at the time and they managed to raise $6 million from investors like Odell Beckham and the owner of the Sacramento Kings to drop out. But their original idea was a massive flop. They tried to build like a bank. They pivoted to build a credit card for businesses called Affiniti. And here's what's absolutely genius about their startup. They target niche small business owners like pharmacists and foot surgeons in Midwestern and Southern states and they reach these people by launching co-branded cards with the trade organizations that represent these kinds of businesses. The hardest part of any credit card business is customer acquisition cost and these guys are killing it because their profit sharing with the trade organizations to incentivize them to market the cards to their millions of members. They've signed up 17 trade associations representing 2 million businesses and the guys claim they're growing faster than Ramp or Brex when they were at the same fundraising stage.
