I've been natural for 15 years and blonde for three, so let me teach you how to layer your hair care products so you can have moisturized hair. First up, you have to clean your hair with shampoo. A moisturizing or hydrating shampoo is going to be perfect for those that wash regularly and for those that don't use any heavy products such as greases, edge controls, or gels. But if you tend to pack products onto your hair or you haven't washed in over a month, a clarifying shampoo is going to be a great option for you to get rid of any product buildup, and then you're going to follow up with your moisturizing or hydrating shampoo. Step two is a conditioner. Step three is a deep conditioner, which is going to be optional on each wash day. Deep conditioners and hydration masks are great for hair that tends to be dry or damaged, such as color-treated hair, relaxed hair, or any type of heat-styled hair. However, these can be used on an as-needed basis. A good rule of thumb is you want to deep condition your hair at least once per month. Step four is going to be your leave-in conditioner. Here you have two options. You can opt for a lightweight spray leave-in conditioner or a heavy creamy leave-in conditioner. Lightweight spray leave-in conditioners are great for those that have fine and low-density hair or for those that are prepping their hair for a silk press, while heavy creamy leave-in conditioners are great for those that are styling their hair in a more textured hairstyle, such as a wash and go, a twist out, a braid out, a flexi rod set, or a perm rod set. Next is your styler of choice. Mousse or alcohol-free gels are great for defining your curls without leaving them dry or crunchy. And then finally, you're going to finish everything off with a sealing oil or a light styling oil.
