let me guess…you loved @monaleo 🎀 song “Diary of an OG” and you’re the oldest daughter (possibly first granddaughter on one side) of a southern black family (probably heavy Christian roots) who spent more time teaching you how to be a good woman to a man than they did teaching you how to navigate literally anything outside of being a wife…am I close or just projecting? 🙂↔️ no but seriously, this record definitely felt personal for me and given the seemingly similarities in our upbringing, there’s a deeper lesson about true and intentional representation in today’s mainstream media. artists/creatives are beginning to lean back on vulnerability and transparency in their art. that being said, tyler perry’s plays were always seen as caricatures of blackness but SO many of us have lived the exact lives told in those stories!
