I've tested 17 brown mascaras so you don't have to. Here's my updated ranking from worst to best. In last place we have Maybelline Sky High mascara in true brown. This mascara doesn't look brown on my lashes. The formula is fine, but if I'm going to be buying a brown mascara, I want it to look brown. I don't have this one in my collection anymore. Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara in chocolate. It's a very flaky formula. It looks black on the lashes. The packaging feels very luxurious and heavy, but the lashes do not. Here's the Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk mascara in the shade Dream Pop. Not technically brown, it's more like a deep burgundy on the lashes. I like the color, but the formula is just average and I just don't find myself gravitating towards it. Glossier Lash Slick. Very natural and not in a good way. I feel like it just coats the lashes and wears them down. Technically not a mascara, but this is the Benefit Tinted Primer. It definitely works as a brown mascara, a very natural cooler tone shade. But if it was slightly warmer, I think it would just show up a lot better on my lashes. This is the Tower 28 Make Waves mascara in the shade Drift. It's fine, it's brown, it's average. This is the Tartelette Tubing mascara in brown. I do love the color of this, but it is just a very wet formula. As the mascara dries out, it definitely looks a lot nicer and is a lot easier to work with. I just don't think that's worth it for a high-end mascara. This is the Judy Doll Curling Iron mascara in brown. I really like it. It's marketed as a more natural mascara. It's actually the only waterproof one on this list. It holds a curl really nicely. I feel like it gives me that fresh lash lift effect minus getting a lash lift. This is the L'Oreal Lash Paradise in the shade Latte Brown. It's a good drugstore option. You can see the brown. This formula is so flaky, and if you can get past the flakiness, then it's fine. This is the Refy Lash Sculpt in the shade brown. I feel like because of the curvature of the wand, I can't really get my outer lashes to look that nice and honestly get a lot of product on them. The times I have been able to work with the curve, the separation and length is insane. This is brand new, this is the Caliray Come Hell or High Water. It's actually what I have on my lashes today. It can get clumpy fast. It's one of those mascaras that in certain lighting it looks brown. I think it's because it's one of those cooler tone shades. This is the Ilia Limitless Lash mascara in Before Dawn. This is actually my favorite formulation on this entire list. The wand is honestly revolutionary. It makes my lashes look fake. The brown shade is just too cool for my liking. Ilia, if you're listening, come out with a warmer tone brown shade. This is the Benefit Bad Gal Bang mascara. Probably the most lengthening and separating. It's a very warm tone brown. It can get spidery. This is the Lisa Eldridge Kitten Lash mascara in Burnt Umber. It's just such a beautiful warm brown. It's slightly natural, but you can definitely build it up and the curved wand just hugs the lashes so perfectly giving you that beautiful lifted separated look. This is my go-to brown mascara right now. It's the Urban Decay Tube Job in Burnette Brown. This formula is unreal, no flaking, holds a curl, separates perfectly. I just wish the brown popped more. I'm always going to reach back for this one, but the YSL Lash Clash in brown. One of the best brown shades, warmer, shows up beautifully, volumizing and fluffy, but it can flake, which is why it is not number one. The brownest mascara I've ever tried is the Persona Tubing Mascara. It's so fluffy, it gives so much length, it actually shows up. That's my list.
