It's finally that time. The SpaceX IPO is coming out. Let's talk about it and whether I'm buying into it or not. So SpaceX is definitely one of the most impressive companies ever built. They're obviously changing the space industry. Starlink is growing like crazy. They have major government contracts and we all know how Elon Musk does with his companies. He's known to change industries. So just to be clear, I absolutely love this business. However, I think a lot of investors make a mistake here. Just because a company is great doesn't automatically make it a great investment. When everybody knows a company is so amazing, the stock price often reflects that before anyone even buys a single share. And I think that this is the exact problem with this IPO. They plan to go public at a 1.75 trillion dollar valuation. Now, just to give a little insight into this, last year SpaceX did about 18.7 billion dollars in revenue. In short, investors that this valuation would be paying 94 times revenue for this company. Just think about that 94 times. Buying this IPO, you're not just betting that SpaceX is going to succeed, you're betting that it's going to do far beyond what the market already expects. Everything about a company can be great, like SpaceX for example, but that doesn't mean you still can't overpay for it. I think that there are plenty of opportunities inside this company and overall I love it. However, I want to own it at the right price, not just the price I can get it at. And to get to the point, honestly, I do not think I'm going to be buying into the IPO itself. However, after the market settles and I can see what's going on with it, I would definitely consider buying into it. Now, one thing I'd like to know, if you've watched me in the past, you would know I have some experience with IPOs. It is very common, especially when an IPO has a crazy amount of hype behind it, that the price just shoots up immediately when it opens. There have been plenty of times that I've bought into an IPO and sold within the first five minutes and made a profit and then watched it tank right after. I have done it in the past. However, it's kind of borderline gambling, so I don't think I'm going to even try that here. But overall, I would like to own this company at some point, I just want it at an attractive valuation. And if you are participating in the IPO, of course, make sure you understand where you're buying into it and be ready for a lot of volatility early on.
