travel is no cure for your mind and I'm saying this as someone who wants to see the entire world. I recently read this article called travel is No Cure for the mind and it was discussing everything that I was thinking about in my head. I meet so many people who say it that they don't like this dull life that they have and the boring life that they have and they want to travel and go everywhere and I completely understand it because I catch myself thinking the exact same way and I've started noticing the pattern underneath it though and I think that pattern is worth talking about. A lot of the time the urge to travel is the urge to escape to get away from a feeling of something you've been avoiding from your own boredom and I've done it and I get avoidant about something that I should be facing. I'm convinced that I need to book a flight or do something drastic. But you genuinely do need to be bored sometimes because boredom is where creativity comes from. It's where you can sit with your own thoughts long enough to work out what you really really want and if you never stop moving you never have time to find out about yourself. And the thing that really helps tends to be small and unglamorous like 10 minutes of journaling. A short regular practice and consistency is not the same as boredom because a journal costs less than five pounds. It's the cheap repeatable thing that can quietly do the work and does more than the plane ticket. And obviously I'm not anti travel and travel might not be the experience you actually need right now. Sometimes the experience is sitting still and sitting with yourself for 10 minutes and that is so much harder than getting on a plane.
