Things you didn't know about the atomic bomb tragedy - pt.3 17. They had 2 minute warning before it exploded The people of Hiroshima only had a 2 minute warning before the bomb went off. 18. The Enola Gay crew finished the bomb in flight So the crew of the Enola Gay had to finish putting together the bomb while in flight on the morning that they were dropping it. They had 3 bomb techs on board to finish that and only the pilot, the co-pilot and the 3 bomb techs knew what they were doing. The other people just knew that they were dropping a bomb but they had no idea what type of bomb it was. 19. They had 49 seconds to get the plane away... So they got the plane up to around 35,000 feet and then they had to drop the bomb by line of sight. They didn't have maps or anything like that and then they had 42 seconds to get away. So they had to do a U-turn with the plane and then full throttle before the shock wave of the bomb would hit them. 20. Exploded around 1900ft above the city... So the bomb actually exploded 1900 feet above the city which was like the sweet spot basically to give it the maximum effect. Because if it exploded too high, a lot of the energy would have been lost above the city and then if it exploded on the ground it would basically make like a radioactive crater. And a lot of the people that last thing that they saw was a bright flash that morning. And when the bomb exploded it was basically like a sun being born in the middle of Hiroshima. 21. Ground temp. got to 6000-7000 degrees The ground temperatures got between 7,000 to 8,000 degrees Celsius. And in the center of the blast it was around a million degrees. 22. People got thermal burns instantly... People that survived that were outside got third degree burns on their retinas. The white flash of light from the explosion was so bright that it was brighter than the sun and it gave people thermal burns even inside their homes. Women that were wearing kimonos like this one right here, the flower print ended up being burned into their skin. Others had their clothes completely burned off. People were vaporized instantly... 23. People were vaporized instantly... People within 3 miles of the epicenter were literally vaporized. Like there was a man that was standing on the steps of the bank and he was literally vaporized and his shadow was burned into the cement from the thermal flash. 24. Peoples skin sagged making them unrecognizable And there was people 3 to 10 miles from the epicenter, the shock wave was so powerful that it literally knocked the skin loose from their bones. 24. Survivors were wandering around like zombies... One survivor said that he came out and people were just wandering around looking like zombies. They had skin drooping down to their knees. He said one girl, her back skin was drooping down to her knees. He said one lady was walking around with no jaw, her tongue flapping out trying to call for help. 25. People ran into rivers to cool their thermal burns... Hundreds of people were running into rivers to try and cool down their thermal burns, but that only made it worse. Some of them got swept away and drowned. And others, their skin actually started coming off. One survivor was trying to rescue people in the river with his boat and he said he went to pull someone up who had been burnt and their skin just slid right off. So he had to get out and get into the river to gently lift them into the boat. 26. One doctor survived & tried to help people Majority of the buildings were destroyed, but one of the hospitals wasn't completely destroyed, but almost all of the staff did die except for one doctor. Blood was everywhere, people were dying in the hallways. PART 4?! IT GETS WORSE...
