I'm a recruiter and I don't negotiate salaries. And I think every company and every recruiter and every manager should stop negotiating too. And that's because salary negotiation is a scam. You don't win anything in the salary negotiation. Some people just lose more than others. And I'll explain why and what I mean. But just as a reminder, I am an active director of recruiting who has set up pay systems. And if getting insight from the from somebody who wants to help you do better is helpful, then you should follow me. Let me give you two scenarios here, one you think is better. In scenario one, I post a job and I have a salary range on it that says this job pays between 75 and 100 thousand dollars. During the first interview, I will reiterate and say this role pays between 75 and 100 thousand dollars. Then it's offer stage time and we're gonna pay you $100,000. But I offer you $85,000 to see what happens. And you come back to me and you say, can we get up to the hundred thousand dollar range that we talked about is the max salary? And I say, maybe. Let me go talk to the hiring manager and see what I can do. And I come back and I say, good news, we got it to be $100,000. And you think you won. In scenario two, I post a job. And the description says, this job pays $100,000. During the first interview, I say, this world is gonna pay $100,000. And we get to the offer stage. The offer is $100,000. You might say, is there any chance we go a little bit higher than $100,000? And I'll say, no, the role pays $100,000, just like we discussed through the whole time. Does that still work for you? For some reason, people hear scenario two as a company being flexible, and they hear scenario one as winning. Even though in the end, both candidates are making the same amount of money. One of them just had to jump through a few more hoops to get it. Because even the people who call themselves the best negotiators are still just getting the amount of money the company wanted to pay them in the first place. They know who the people are who think they're gonna be great negotiators, and they're prepared for it. Which is why that offer comes in lower to begin with. The reason I don't negotiate salary is because it's more honest not to. Salary negotiation is nothing but a game. So when I implement payment policies, we skip the negotiation. I know most companies don't do this, but I also know my employees appreciate it. Would you appreciate it more?
