China thinks these are the only degrees worth getting. More than 12,000 university degrees. And most of them are concentrated in the arts, the humanities, and languages. One university's top official even called a four-year translation degree, and I quote, a huge waste of national resources. And that's because AI already does that. In December, I was in China looking at masters in artificial intelligence. And I asked the course coordinator, do you have anything that combines AI with philosophy? And she looked at me like I asked to study astrology in the engineering department. Turns out that that was a preview of the national policy. So Beijing is stepping in because they're not letting universities keep producing degrees that the economy does not need. This is what they want their kids to study. At the very top we have embodied intelligence, which is the combination of robotics and AI. Right behind it we have brain computer interface, which China named a future industry in the next five year plan. The remaining degrees are focusing on applying AI across specific industries. So while China is rewriting the education system, Nvidia CEO is telling Western parents not to worry about their kids study. In 10 years, China will have a generation building robots and reinventing traditional industries. Meanwhile, in the West, we will have a generation that studied whatever felt right.
