When Kylie Jenner rolled out a new line of
electrolyte packets at Coachella earlier this
spring, the launch prompted plenty of takes
online, especially from the LinkedIn crowd.
How does a drink brand go from selling canned
vodka sodas to offering up wellness-focused
hydration powders? Some people on the
platform went as far as to call the move
“brand napalm” and a “rebrand nightmare.”

Those critiques did not seem to matter to
Jenner’s Gen Z fans, who live on Instagram and
TikTok, not LinkedIn. They started buying the
electrolyte mixes, which are packed with collagen
and hyaluronic acid, in droves. Since launching
in April, K2O by Sprinter has sprung to the top of
the TikTok Shop charts and generated $4.3
million in sales.

Sprinter CEO Jay Hunter, who joined the
company in October, credits that rapid
growth to K2O’s near constant presence on
TikTok Shop, where the brand streams live
between 85 and 95 hours a week. The host
is usually one of the summer interns. Gen Z
selling to Gen Z.
“The most important thing is the
brand has to be its own best creator,”
says Hunter. “The consumer today
does not want to purchase from a very
professionalized commercial video...
They want something that feels real."
