This is what I would tell you if you were my younger sister. 1️⃣ When leadership says there are no dumb questions, they are being polite. You will be remembered for the quality of what you ask. If Google can answer it in ten seconds, do not ask it in a meeting. 2️⃣ Complaining about your manager to a colleague is a risk you cannot afford. That conversation will find its way back. Every time. 3️⃣ Look around the next time you are in a meeting. If you are always the one with the notepad, put it down and let someone else pick it up. 4️⃣ Cut the word just out of your work emails and vocabulary. I just wanted to follow up. I just had a quick question. It is costing you more authority than you realise. 5️⃣ Smile at everyone and trust no one until you have been there at least six months. You need time to see who people actually are when things get political. 6️⃣ Check if your company matches pension contributions. If they do and you are not using it, you are giving away free money every single month. 7️⃣ A promotion without a pay rise is just more responsibility for the same price. Negotiate the salary before you accept the title. 8️⃣ After you name your number in a salary negotiation, stop talking. Silence feels uncomfortable but it is working in your favour. 9️⃣ Before you send that email you wrote while you were angry, save it as a draft. Sleep on it. Reread it tomorrow. Then decide. 🔟 If you are clearly the strongest person on your team, that is not a reason to stay comfortable. That is a reason to go and have the conversation about what comes next.
