The biggest mistake I ever made in my vending business. Only took one key and it cost me hundreds of dollars. I landed was the perfect vending location. A busy hotel with people coming in and out every single day. The manager seemed friendly and asked if they could have a key to the machine. They said just in case a snack gets stuck or a customer needs help. Sounded reasonable, so I handed them one. A couple weeks later, I noticed something strange. Cash totals didn't match what I expected. First, it was around $40 missing, then it was $70. Maybe I counted wrong, but then snacks started disappearing without sales showing up. Something wasn't adding up. I stocked, took pictures of every row, counted and came back a couple days later. Sure enough, products were gone. Cash missing, didn't match inventory. After that, I changed the locks immediately. Forward, nobody gets a key to my vending machines. If a location needs help with a jam, they call me. It's a lesson I learned the hard way, but it probably saved me thousands of dollars over the years. If you own vending machines or are thinking about getting into the business, learn from my mistake.
