The owner of one of my vending machine locations tried to change our deal after he saw how much money the machine was making. When I first acted like I was doing him a favor. The machine gave his employees and customers convenient snacks and drinks, I handled everything, buying the machine, stocking it, fixing it and taking the risk. But a few months later, he watched me collect the money and suddenly decided he deserved half of everything. Half? Of everything. Half? People see cash inside a vending machine and assume it's all profit. They don't think about product costs, card reader fees, gas, repairs, expired inventory, taxes, or the thousands of dollars it cost to buy the equipment. I'd rather remove the machine than give away half of the business I built. Was I wrong? Or was he getting greedy?
