Story time of how I became a data scientist and now working as a quantitative research engineer. In this day and age, people are transforming their lives through content creation or online courses and they are making it big. Well, I am one of those that changed my life through online courses and this is how it all happened. First of all, my name is Moriwendi Baloi and I studied biological science at the University of the Witwatersrand. Yes, and now I am in tech as a quantitative research engineer. Let me tell you about it. In my third year of university, I met a guy who was tutoring me back in first year. He basically was asking whether he should take mathematical science or data science in his honours year. It was 2020, so I didn't know what data science meant. I asked him to explain and he did. My goodness, at that point it was like God was answering my prayers. It was like he was an angel sent from heaven because he came at a point where I was no longer satisfied. I was no longer happy about the degree I was doing. Not that anything was wrong, but I was not resonating with it anymore. So I went back home to research about data science and I loved it from that day even up to today. Right after my examination in my final year, I came back home in December and began studying data science like crazy. I did online courses through DataCamp. I started with data science with Python and then into the following year started doing machine learning in Python. Then data analytics and SQL. All these were through DataCamp and then after that I did Power BI on Udemy. I started applying for internships and fortunately I got an internship in data science. Getting the internship was not enough for me. I felt like I needed to prove myself. I needed to feel like I've got this and I am a data scientist. So I started my internship, which was a year. I worked really crazy. I worked hard and so this is what happened. This video is becoming very long, so I'm gonna cut this one and make a part two.
