One of the best investments that you will ever make is intentionally building a healthy self-esteem. So here are a couple of things that might actually help you do so. One, do difficult things on purpose, not because suffering is noble, but because every challenge that you overcome becomes evidence that you are a lot more capable than you perhaps thought you were. Two, stop talking to yourself in ways that you would never speak to somebody that you love. Pay attention to your inner dialogue. It sets the tone to a lot. Three, get good at something. Competence builds confidence. Learn a skill, practice it, master it. Four, move your body. Not for a dress size, but because consistently showing up for yourself builds evidence of self-respect. Five, define your personal values and live by them. It is very difficult to respect yourself when you're constantly betraying what you know to be true. Six, spend less time trying to be chosen and more time actually doing the choosing. So instead of focusing on, do they like me, ask yourself, do I like who I become around them? Seven, stop outsourcing your decisions. Practice making decisions without constantly seeking reassurance. And number eight, put some respect on your own boundaries.
