So many people are getting married, but the wedding is not an achievement. We've celebrated the wrong things. You know, to be honest with you, people spend 12 months planning for a wedding, putting serious monies aside, thousands of flowers just floating and flying everywhere, thousands of rands on decorations, but they won't spend a few hours learning how to communicate, how to resolve conflict, how to manage money, how to forgive, how to parent. The wedding is just a one-day event, but marriage is every day after that. The dress won't keep you together. The cake won't keep you together. The venue won't keep you together. What will keep you together ultimately is character, discipline, and humility. Now, stop preparing to get married and start preparing to rather stay married because anybody can have a beautiful wedding. Very few people intentionally build beautiful marriages. So that wedding is not an achievement. It's more important to focus on staying married than getting married.
