🎉 SCHATZI’S FREEDOM RIDE 🎉 Being a volunteer at a shelter means getting your heart broken more times than I can count. But moments like this are the ones I hold on to. They are the reason I keep showing up, keep fighting for the dogs who still have a chance, and keep hoping that they, too, will get the happy ending they deserve. Schatzi arrived at the shelter as a 10 year old German Shepherd weighing only 35 pounds. She was skin and bones, and the sadness in her eyes told a story I will probably never know. The moment I met her in her kennel, I knew I had to share her story. Deep down, I believed that someone, somewhere, would see her and save her life. I posted her video, and millions of people watched it. One of those people was Sue. The very next day, Sue reached out and told me she was getting in her car and driving six hours from South Carolina to meet Schatzi. She brought her dog, Delilah, along, and from the moment they met, it felt like a match made in heaven. They immediately bonded. They were gentle, sweet, and completely comfortable with each other. And just like that, Schatzi found her forever home. Sue, Delilah, and Schatzi got back in the car and made the six hour drive home together. Since then, Sue has been sending me updates, and they make my heart so happy. Schatzi slept in bed on her very first night, and it is clear that she is loving her new life and finally getting to enjoy her golden years. To everyone who shared Schatzi’s story, thank you. You are part of saving her life. You never know who might see a post and decide to help, foster, adopt, or completely change an animal’s future.
