i won an olympic gold medal for skiing by accident
What do you mean?
i was supposed to be a runner.
that was my big thing in high school. i thought i would be recruited.
but i also did a bit of skiing...
i'd had 45 days on the mountain. i was not a pro or training to be one.
but i got invited to my first Freeski World Cup when i was 16
as the alternate of the alternate!
someone had gotten injured, and another had a visa issue
so this was my one-time chance to go to a world cup.
but it was the same week as my state championship for running.
and i actually picked running because it was "my thing."
last minute, my teammates' parents came to me and said
"we know the running team will win with you, but you should do the world cup."
so i went to the world cup...
and i got enough points to be invited back with my own spot next time.
i got 2nd place at my second world cup...
and i won at my third.
so i became an olympic skier...
and i won a gold medal.
