[ THINGS TO DO ] THIS HUGE RIVERSIDE BUILDING IN BRISBANE IS COMPLETELY FREE AND MOST PEOPLE HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IS INSIDE Right on the edge of the Brisbane River sits one of the most underrated free things to do in the whole city. It looks like a library, and it is, but it is also a maker space, a set of art and history galleries, a First Nations cultural hub, and one of the best free places to work, study or just sit and watch the water go by. Entry is free, no ticket and no booking, and it is open seven days a week. MORE THAN JUST BOOKS 🎬 Free films: thousands of movies and documentaries to stream through Kanopy with a free membership. 📚 Free reading: magazines and newspapers from all over the world through PressReader, no subscription needed. 💻 Free workspace: free wifi and public computers, plus quiet reading rooms with big windows looking over the river. THE MAKER SPACE AND FAMILY SPACES 🛠️ The Edge: a creative space on the lower levels with 3D printers, laser cutters, sewing machines and more. 🎙️ Recording studio: a near professional set up you can access for free on Thursday evenings during Hack the Evening. 🎨 kuril dhagun: a dedicated First Nations space with stories, artwork and drop in family sessions. 🧒 The Corner: a play and story zone made just for kids under 8, plus free Rhyme Time sing alongs. GOOD TO KNOW 🚘 A short walk from South Bank train and busway stations, with paid parking around South Bank. 🎟️ Membership is free and takes a few minutes to set up online or at the front desk. ✍🏻 Using the 3D printers and laser cutters needs a quick safety induction first, and some inductions and materials carry a small cost. ☔️ Open seven days, with late nights until 8pm Monday to Thursday, so it makes a great rainy day plan. 📍 State Library of Queensland is located at Stanley Place, South Brisbane Who are you taking with you?
