You don't understand the end goal of capitalism. The tierification of consumer goods. Lately, I've been seeing a lot of people talking about Route, the company that basically provides shipping protection for all of your packages. Because I was personally really upset whenever I see this company added to my total in my cart. And the information that I saw online was not what I expected at all. I expected vitriol and anger, kind of what I felt. And instead, what I saw on the internet, and maybe these are bots, was just people protecting Route and protecting the end goal of what they're doing. And that made me think that people really don't understand the end goal of capitalism and where things will go from here. So I thought I would walk you guys through it as someone who has helped lead multiple billion dollar companies, has consulted for them, and kind of just sees where this train is going because of my experience. Step 1: Find an expensive problem. I believe Route started off probably as a shipping protection company for really large packages. You know, maybe you're delivering something that's $5,000 to $10,000, and that is something that you probably want protected. But because investors always need returns and you want to increase your company's valuation, you have to expand the market share that you're serving. And so they started entering more retail spaces and more consumer goods spaces for smaller ticket item purchases. And yes, you might see this and say, great, now I know if my package ever gets stolen, I know I'll get refunded for it. But you have to remember that Route is essentially an insurance company. And so what they're doing is gathering data on you, the area that you live in, perhaps, to say, hmm, should we price you higher? Should we price you lower? Should we not offer it to you at all? It's kind of like an insurance premium, and you have to pay for it every time that you have a package, even if you end up returning those items. So they're getting a bunch of revenue from you that's like one time, because it's every single package that you're using. Okay, great. Now let's keep this playing further down the line. Now they have all of your data. Now they are the one who set prices because they are in these partnerships, usually one-on-one partnerships with these retail companies, and so those retail companies aren't going to sub them out for another, you know, protection option. So now Route has something called pricing power, which means they can price you for whatever they want. And if you select not to have Route, if your package gets stolen, then the retail company has no reason to refund you or even participate in this conversation, because you didn't get Route and that's your fault. And on top of that, if Route notices that your packages get stolen more often than not, kind of like with most insurance companies when you file a claim, they can deny you, they can only give you a partial refund. You are essentially putting all of your eggs in one basket, hoping that a company that's essentially an insurance company will not do the same things that insurance companies do. That's why I don't understand the lack of outrage when companies like Route enter these retail spaces and start eroding the trust and eroding the agreements that we previously had with these companies.
