Madeline White & my observations about the pet care industry

I made a pretty viral video a few weeks ago talking about how we have mediocre things because people aren't allowed to do what they love. And after seeing more about the tragic passing of Madeline White's dog Dunkin, I would actually amend that to say that things are really dangerous because people aren't allowed to do what they love. And allow me to explain that a little bit further. So for context on the Madeline White situation, her dog passed away while in the care of a really negligent board and trainer who we've actually now heard multiple accounts of, like, other dogs passing while in his care. Um, and the reason that the original video was ever prompted for me actually was because of the dogs in the area that I live in. I live really close to a really major, like, dog park, dog play area, and I have my dog myself. And what I have observed is this influx of dog walkers, trainers, etcetera because people are becoming more and more aware of the fact that, you know, individuals are willing to pay a lot of money for their pets to be taken care of. And when money influxes into something, you lose the people who are genuinely doing it because they care about it. You lose the people who are actually going to take care of your dog. And not because they go anywhere, but just because there are so many more people who actually don't care. It's harder to find people who are going to actually take really good care of your pets and the things that you love. I've generally also observed this about the pet care industry, just because of the influx of capital into the industry. You see private equity companies buying vet that, hospitals, buying, the food companies, kind of like Ali or Farmer's Dog, etcetera. And whenever I see large amounts of capital entering a space, especially a space that impacts me, I tend to take a very large step back. Because I understand that the quality that I'm receiving is now being diluted. And when people do I mean, we all need money, but when the core motivating reason is money, which I think is the case for a lot of people now in the pet care space, especially on Rover, on WAG, etcetera, they do not love animals the way that we do. They will not look into what is best for your pet the way that you would. And I think that the reason I'm making this video is just that it breaks my heart so much how money and the need to make money can corrupt so many safe and beautiful places. It has for, you know, years and years and years, and it will probably continue to for years and years to come. So just as a PSA, as you are evaluating where to send your pet, whether for training, for grooming, for walking, for whatever, you should be really, really careful.
