If you have a travel card and you don't know what tier it's in, you're probably leaving money on the table. Capital One Venture One, this one's a tier D. No annual fee, but you only earn 1.2 miles per dollar on everything. Aside from bonus points, this is barely considered a travel card. Citi Double Cash, this is another tier D. No annual fee, 2% cashback on everything, but 1% when you buy and 1% when you pay. I mean, it's a solid cashback card, but no travel perks, no lounge access, and no credits. If you're using this as your primary travel card, you're missing the point entirely. Amex Gold, now this is a tier C. The annual fee is $325. It's great for dining, you get 4x times points, but it's not built for travel. So if you fly, your card... Capital One Venture. Now, this is a tier B. This is only $95 a year. Two miles on absolutely everything, flexible redemption and zero foreign transaction fees. There's no categories to memorize. Although there's no complimentary lounge access, this is a solid, no hassle card for most travelers. Bilt Mastercard. This is another tier B. No annual fee. There's 3x times on dining and two times on travel. Here's the kicker. This is the only card that you can actually earn your rent or your mortgage with no processing fee. And the transfer partners are genuinely elite. The only catch is you need to use it 5 times per statement period, or you don't earn anything. So know the rule and follow it. And this card punches way beyond its price point. Capital One Venture X. Now, this is a tier A. The annual fee is $395, but it comes with a $300 travel credit plus 10,000 anniversary year bonus miles. That basically wipes out the entire fee on top of that. It typically has general welcome bonuses plus lounge access at more than 1300 airports worldwide. Amex Platinum. This is a tier S. Now it's $895 and yes, it's expensive. The fee went up $200 dollars in 2025. But if you actually use all the perks, hotel credits, dining credits, lounge access, and shopping credits, you actually walk away with over $3,500 dollars in real value every year. And the sign up bonuses are usually monstrous. There's a link in my bio where you can join my free community. This is where I breakdown exactly how to use these so you can travel for less.
