I want to see if the Amex Platinum might pay for itself. I went to the Equinox showroom in Seattle a couple weeks ago and the person walking me through the membership asked if I had a Platinum because there's some $300 credit. Now $300 is a lot of money and so I decided to see whether or not the Platinum made sense to reintroduce into my credit card stack because I had already made the decision that I wanted to sign up for this Equinox membership. Now keep in mind the annual fee for this card is $700 and so my goal was to see if I could add up to $700 out of all the credits that the card offers because then the card would be worth it for me to keep even if I didn't use it. For me I get plus $200 because of the Uber cash and plus $300 because of the Equinox credit, adding up to $500 already. Depending on how much you use either of these platforms, like either any of these like digital entertainment platforms or if you use Clear a lot, then you can add that to your credit total. For me, I pay for Clear anyways and so for me that's another plus $200. And so I hit that $700 total already. But a little icing on the cake, I would also use these $100 in statement credits annually at Saks and I usually just get socks with this. So for me the total in credits that I would use is $800 compared to the annual fee of $700, meaning if I don't even use the Amex Platinum on any transactions other than that gym membership, the card is worth having for me. And so when the Equinox opens up in April or whatever, I'm going to go ahead and sign up for that card.
