American Express just announced its biggest Centurion Lounge expansion ever and Newark is getting the crown jewel. I'm a travel journalist, I cover all the news in premium aviation, here's everything you need to know. American Express just announced plans for four major Centurion Lounge projects, including two new lounges and two major expansions. Biggest headline is Newark. Newark is getting a two-story 30,000 square foot lounge in Terminal A that's expected to open sometime in 2027. It'll be the largest lounge in the entire Centurion network with three different bars, a coffee and wellness bar, and food from award-winning chefs. And once it opens, Amex will be the first credit card issuer to have its own lounges at all three of the major New York area airports. They're also opening up a second Centurion Lounge at London Heathrow, this time in Terminal 5 in 2028. Meanwhile, Philadelphia's lounge is doubling in size while Houston's lounge will be tripling in size to nearly 23,000 square feet. To me, the most interesting part of this announcement is the sheer amount of space that Amex is investing in. Airport lounges are one of the biggest perks of investing in a premium travel card, but overcrowding of these lounges remains one of their biggest issues. So it'll be interesting to see if more space translates to a better experience for travelers. If you have an Amex platinum, I'd love to know which airport do you think desperately needs a better lounge situation?
