gyudon but the rice cooks in the sauce 🍚 one pot, 30 minutes! no nabe? any deep pan or dutch oven with a lid works. rice cooker version in the steps too. full write-up on my substack (link in bio) ingredients (13-inch pan, serves 3-4): 🍚 2 cups sushi rice, rinsed well 🥣 1 cup + 2 tbsp dashi 🥢 1/4 cup soy sauce 🍶 1/4 cup mirin 🥃 3 tbsp sake 🍯 1 1/2 tbsp sugar 🥩 14 oz thinly sliced beef (shabu/sukiyaki cut) 🧅 1 small onion, thinly sliced 🫚 1 1/2 tsp grated ginger 🌿 4 scallions, thinly sliced 🍳 1 egg yolk ✨ toasted sesame seeds steps: 1. add rice to the pot with dashi, soy sauce, mirin, sake, and sugar. let it soak 20 min 2. scatter the onion on top, then lay the beef over everything in a single layer. dot with ginger 3. lid on. medium heat until it's steaming (5-7 min), then low for 11 min. no peeking 4. off the heat, rest 10 min with the lid on 5. scallions around the beef, yolk in the center, sesame on top. mix it all together rice cooker version: add rice + sauce, top up with dashi to the 2 cup line, layer onion and beef on top, run the white rice cycle, then finish the same way #gyudon #onepotmeal #japanesefood #easydinnerideas #ricebowl
