"Executive presence" hack as a leader

Ah, this one greens me. Why is it that you're still getting talked over? Well, other leaders talk and everyone just listens. I had my first manager role at 23 and got hired for my first CEO role at 28 and I believe that one of the reasons I moved up so quickly was how I communicated. But it wasn't until I learned three executive presence hacks that I actually started to sound like a leader people trusted and wanted to listen to. So, if you want to have executive presence, here are three techniques that changed everything. The first was to lower my pitch and slow down my cadence. Feel the difference when we talking like this. versos talking like this with a slower cadence and lower pitch. Fast hyped speech is strongly associated with anxiety, over eagerness and people pleasing where science shows that lower voices are associated with authority, maturity and predisposition. The next one is something I see a lot of people do and this is talking in an upward inflection when you're trying to make a point but it sounds like you're asking a question. Instead you want to end your sentences on a downward inflection so that you sound confident in what you're saying not like you're asking for permission to say it. The last thing isn't how I'm talking but what I'm saying. I used to bubble a lot and used way too many words to get my point across because I was worried that they wouldn't get it. And so I would overexplain. But instead of being clear, it was actually confusing my message and it made me seem unsafe. So now I always prep two to three bullets on each point before I go into a meeting of conversation so that I can say it as clearly as possible in as few words as possible.
