Miracle-Gro sucks. Sorry, not sorry. This Miracle-Gro is cheap, but it is junk. They use a lot of fine, inexpensive materials. Peat moss, saw dust, synthetic fertilizers, etc. Peat moss, fine particles, going to settle over the next few months. They will continue to break down into smaller and smaller pieces. As they get smaller, your medium, your potting medium is going to become compacted. And the fine particles in here are going to be taking all of the pockets your plant's roots need to breathe. I mean, just look at this. It's about the consistency of Play-Doh. In excess water is going to drain this mix is also going to hold onto moisture too long and create perfect root rot. Take the soil mix that I made myself. It contains chunkier material like perlite, coarse bark, and leca. All of these chunky pieces are going to not only create pockets of air for the roots to breathe, but structure that will hold over time. It does not become compacted, heavy for the roots. This is also going to allow water to drain faster, well, happens when I pick up this soil. The form is much looser. Does not have the consistency of Play-Doh. Lots of nice breathable pockets in here. Miracle-Gro is not unusable, but there is a reason experienced plant collectors spend a little bit more on soil. We're not just paying for dirt. We are paying for structure that lasts longer, giving our plants a much better chance to thrive. SOIL MIX RECS IN CAPTION!
