These are five frugal habits that are secretly costing you all your money. I'm all for being frugal and saving money, but at the same time, I like to be frugal chic, so having balance being intentional with my spending. And that doesn't mean choosing the cheapest option. 1. HOMEBODY Being homebody. Look, I'm a self-proclaimed grandma. I have a 9 PM bedtime and I often find that I'd much rather chill at home than be out. At the same time, being at home too much and isolating is incredibly expensive. As a content creator, part of my job is networking. I know the importance of being in the right rooms, proximity to the right people. And so I try to go to two or three events every week. If I just decided to say no to everything and stay at home, it would definitely be very expensive. 2. HEALTH Being too frugal with your health. Health is something I am never willing to compromise on, but I don't do the most. I go to a nice gym where I feel motivated to work out and I try to eat whole foods. But when I was at uni on bit more of a budget, I'd eat 20p noodles and think I was getting such a great deal. Little did I realize I sometimes get colds, things like that. I never made the correlation between what I ate, how much sleep I got and my health. And being ill is expensive because you can't work properly, you can't socialize properly. Touch wood, but I don't really get colds that much anymore, and I would attribute it to investing in this lifestyle. 3. WASTING ENERGY Spending way too much energy over returns for parcels, if something's faulty, writing an essay to customer services. I'm all for getting a refund for a faulty product or something like that. But if an item costs you £50 and it's taken you four to six hours to try and sort it. In that time, you could have made that money through a side hustle. So obviously I try and get my money back and get refunds for things I'm not happy with. But at the same time, I'm not going to let it be so time consuming. 4. PRICE OVER VALUE Always going for the cheapest option. So you have two pairs of trainers at £50 a pair. They seem cheaper in theory, but if they start wearing after six months, you're going to have to spend £50 again. I'd much rather invest the £100 pair, know that they're going to last better. More expensive doesn't always mean better quality, but sometimes it does. 5. DOING EVERYTHING YOURSELF Insisting on doing every single thing yourself. Ambitious girls, I'm thinking about you. Business. I'm thinking the same. Do editing, see my content. Or this, makes me... At some point you're going to reach capacity. You're going to be managing a highly powered job, coming home, having to do all of your cleaning, cooking. Something has to give. The outsource that technically you yourself, but buying back time is incredibly important. Those... So those habits that might be quietly preventing you from building wealth.
