Hook

There's one thing I've been thinking about for a while. Uh basically this article talks about how Glossier came up and they came up through the blogging era and kind of running a blog and then Instagram and then through their audience of blogging they they really master the series audience. Then they basically transitioned the brand into selling consumer you know products for other brands as a retailer. Um and that like system really is a great playbook, right? You you build a brand in media and your only product is writing articles, producing media, images, video, etc. And then everyone who follows you as an audience kind of being the spokesperson for the industry, then you present them with the products that you're talking about essentially, then you could sell as a retailer. Um and you know they could dominate the market like this in in one would think that they would become like the next Sephora and you know and Glossier can create their own products. And there's a lot of things in that playbook and you know the CEO and founder would talk about that I would study a lot and um take a lot of consideration from. Um but one thing you know nowadays the landscape's a little different and I wish this was the playbook. Like my talent's lie in producing media to be able to you know build a audience and then leverage that audience to be able to build a brand that we could sell like products and services through. Um that's what I love and that was the you know wave or playbook or whatever from like the early 2000s all the way to like maybe 2018 2019. Um especially there's some prime eras in that but I wish this was the case I wish this was still the way to go. I think now it's more influencer-ish based and there's a lot of you know talk about that not being a thing anymore or that's coming to a decline where it's the same premise like you build an audience in a niche and then you turn around and be able to monetize that niche through products, whether for other people's products or your own product. Um and the influencer brand is like that basically. But you know I've been hearing a lot of words you know especially from influencers that that's no longer gonna be as relevant or as profitable in the next coming years and it's because of trust, it's because you know do we actually want to buy products from influencer, do we want to be sold to by someone we care about their opinion but not you know necessarily care about them directly telling us hey buy this. So I have a lot of thoughts on this. I mean I wish it was the playbook I wish it still worked. I just think it's much more nuanced now and like we have products we've chosen as consumers and we have people that we watch and admire as you know viewers and I think that can be very separate in the years to come. I think it's because of TikTok but yeah that's that's my perspective on this whole thing.
