Corporate is a nightmare for high achievers

I will die on the hill that corporate is a complete and utter nightmare for an over achiever, for a high achiever. And I'm going to tell you exactly why. So if you are a high achiever and you're currently in a corporate environment or you're entering a corporate environment, pay really close attention because if you are observing any of these things, you may wanna start planning your escape like yesterday. No. 1, and this one absolutely sucks. This was a really hard pill for me to swallow, but you do not have complete control over your reputation. It was really difficult for me to accept the fact that my reputation was partially based on the people that I work, my bosses and the company that I work with. So if I heard anybody say something not so great about a boss I was working with or my company, I would spiral because I was so upset at the fact that that could affect my. No. 2, it's not cool to be excited about your career. And again, for a high achiever, often times you base a lot of your self worth and value around your career. And corporate is worse than high school in some ways where you walk into the office and it is just expected that you hate your. It is so uncool to be excited about work that you just become a negative yourself. Three, people don't wanna be better. They just wanna be right. A really, really tough concept for a high achiever to grasp because most high achievers are used to being rewarded for their input. So the harder you worked, the smarter you were, the better you were at something, the more likely you were to be rewarded for said thing, especially in an academic setting. You know, if you work really smart, you would get good grades, right? It does not work like that in a corporate environment. It is more important to be liked than it is to be. Bring new ideas to the table, challenge old traditional ways of doing things. So if you're observing any of these, it's probably time to start planning and take that from somebody who was really, really excited to enter the corporate world as a high achiever, thinking that they were just going to conquer the world and climb the ladder. I lasted three and a half years and I do not regret leaving for one second.
