Cadbury's parent company was asked to be scored on child labour, deforestation and farmer pay. They said no. The Chocolate Scorecard grades 49 chocolate companies on exactly that, every year. Mondelez refused to take part. They'd already swapped the independent Fairtrade mark for a scheme they run themselves, and an in-house scheme doesn't have to set a minimum price at all. The bar itself is 20% cocoa, the legal floor, with palm oil in there alongside the cocoa butter and a wrapper your kerbside bin won't take. Tony's Chocolonely: 32% cocoa, no palm oil, Fairtrade mark, paper and foil wrapper, and it pays a price meant to cover what a farmer needs to live on. It was one of only two companies out of 49 to get top marks on the same scorecard Cadbury wouldn't sit. Full podium and the label checks we use are in our Day 37 chocolate video, on our profile now. #sustainableswaps #ecoswaps #fairtrade #chocolate #madegood
