You Can Do Engineering

I'm an electrical engineer. I never took calculus in high school. I never took physics in high school. I never took chemistry in high school. I didn't even take the SAT or the ACT. And I had people close to me telling me when I was a senior in high school, you can't major in engineering in college. You will fail. And you know what I said? Watch me. Because I don't think what defines an engineer is your intelligence level or how many AP courses you took in high school or what your GPA was. It comes down to one thing. Resilience. I don't care what your experience is. I know people that took all AP courses in their senior year of high school and failed out of engineering the first semester. The reason why I have my degree in electrical engineering is not because of intelligence. It's not because of anything besides my ability to say, no, I'm going to get this job done, no matter what, no matter what people tell me at all. And I think that a lot of people have this mindset because a lot of people go into college thinking that they can't do something because they didn't take a class when they were 15 years old or 16 years old or 17 years old. It doesn't matter. What matters is if you get the degree. You don't have to go to MIT or Harvard or Georgia Tech and get an engineering degree from a top five school in the country, okay? You can go to community college first. I did. I took dual enrollment credits in my senior year of high school, went to community college first. I transferred to a smaller school, okay? And I'm still good now. Because I have my job. And what a lot of people don't say out loud is that none of it matters. You have to be able to tell people, no. Seriously. And the same logic applies in every single aspect of life. When I was a five, six, chubby freshman in high school that was unathletic and people told me I would never be able to dunk. What did I say? Watch me. Again. And now I've close to a 40 inch vertical and I can basically do any dunk that I want. All right? So for any high school students out there or college students out there that think that they can't major in engineering or anything difficult at all. All you have to tell people is screw off. I'm going to get this job done, no matter what.
