9 things I wish EVERY first-timer knew before their first Disney World park day
Because finding these out AFTER you arrive is a little late... 😅
SAVE THIS for your Disney trip
1. You DON'T have to stay all day.
This sounds obvious...
but when you've paid that much for a Disney ticket, it can feel like you need to squeeze every possible minute out of it.
You don't.
A Disney day can be:
Park in the morning
Pool/rest in the afternoon
Back for the evening
Or you can simply call it a day when everyone has had enough.
💜 A shorter HAPPY park day beats a longer miserable one.
2. You don't need to buy bottled water all day. 💧
You can take your own water bottle into Disney World — and you can ask for complimentary cups of water at quick-service locations.
In Florida heat, hydration isn't the place to economise on effort.
⭐ INSIDER TIP: Bring a refillable bottle and keep topping up everyone throughout the day.
Save the $5 bottle money for a Mickey snack. 😂
3. "The park opens at 9" does NOT mean leave at 8:45. 😅
Disney World is BIG.
You've potentially got:
Driving/Disney transport
Walking
Security
Park entrance
The inevitable child who needs the toilet 😅
And Magic Kingdom has an extra consideration if you're driving: its parking is at the Transportation and Ticket Center, and from there you'll travel on to Magic Kingdom by monorail or ferry.
⭐ INSIDER TIP: Work backwards from when you actually want to be inside the park.
4. You DON'T automatically need Lightning Lane.
Yes, Lightning Lane can save you time.
No, that doesn't mean every family needs to buy it for every park day.
Ask:
What do we actually want to ride?
When are we visiting?
What's our budget?
How much do we value reducing queue time?
Sometimes it's absolutely worth it.
Sometimes your money is better spent elsewhere.
💜 The best choice is the one that fits YOUR family.
5. "Park opening" isn't necessarily when the first guests enter. ⏰
Guests staying at Disney Resort hotels and select other hotels currently get 30-minute Early Theme Park Entry at all four Walt Disney World theme parks every day of their stay.
So if you're staying off-site and planning to arrive for general park opening...
some guests may already be inside.
⭐ Check the current opening AND Early Entry times when planning your morning.
6. Don't promise a ride before checking the height requirement. 😂
Some Disney attractions have minimum height requirements.
And finding that out while your excited child is standing underneath the ride sign?
Not ideal. 😬
Disney lists height requirements for individual attractions online and in its planning information.
💜 PARENT TIP: Measure children at home and check the requirements for your must-do attractions before the holiday.
7. One child can't—or doesn't want to—ride? You may not BOTH have to miss out.
Disney has a service called Rider Switch.
At participating attractions, one adult can stay with a child/guest who isn't riding while the rest of the party rides.
Then the waiting adult can have their turn without waiting in the standard queue again.
⭐ PARENT TIP: Ask the Cast Member at the attraction about Rider Switch before joining the queue.
This can be an absolute game-changer for families with children of different ages/heights.
9. Screenshot the things you REALLY need. 📱
Your phone is going to do a lot of work at Disney.
So before leaving your hotel/villa, screenshot anything you'd hate to be hunting for later:
Important plans
Reservation details
Your family's must-dos
Useful information
Anything you may need quick access to
And while you're at it...
BRING A POWER BANK. 🔋😂
Because a dead phone halfway through a Disney day is one kind of magic nobody asked for.
9. You are NOT going to do everything.
Read that again. 😂
Walt Disney World is enormous.
Trying to ride every ride, meet every character, eat every snack and watch every show is one of the quickest ways to turn your holiday into a military operation.
Instead, before each park day choose:
❤️ YOUR FAMILY'S TOP 3
If you get those done?
Everything else is a bonus.
You haven't "failed" at Disney because you didn't tick off somebody else's must-do list.
YOUR FIRST PARK DAY
CHECKLIST 👑
Before you go:
Know how you're getting there
Allow plenty of travel
time
Check park & Early
Entry times
Check your must-do
ride heights
Know your family's Top
3
Decide if Lightning Lane
makes sense for YOU
Bring/refill water
Screenshot important
plans
Pack a power bank
And most importantly...
Don't try to do
EVERYTHING.
Do what matters most to YOUR family. 💜
