If you eat pap you are going to gain weight. Absolutely not, this is not true. Let me explain, pap is a carbohydrate, just like any other carbohydrate. Rice, oats, potatoes, bananas. It's going to provide your body with energy. Your body doesn't look at pap and say, 'Oh, this is pap, so let me make you gain weight.' No. Your body processes the carbohydrates from the pap into glucose, but that's a conversation for another day. Why do people blame pap for weight gain? Usually, it's not the pap itself. It's your overall habits from the morning to late. For example, you might have a large portion of pap, old meat, chakalaka, coleslaw, sauces. Calories plus. Your meal then becomes calorie dense. That is a lot of calories in one plate. Your plate is then also dominated by the pap. You don't have, you don't have enough protein. You don't have enough fiber. The issue is not that. The issue is the portion that you're eating with. You are not making sure that you are prioritizing your fiber or your protein. Remember, weight gain happens when you are consistently consuming more energy than your body needs over time. And you're eating throughout the day without having any idea that whether you're consuming on a calorie deficit or consuming on a calorie surplus, then that's when weight gain happens. And then you start thinking it's the pap. When really, it could be the combination of the snacks, the drinks, the overall habits that happen from the morning to late. So if you love pap, you don't have to remove it to start losing weight. You have to build your plate properly. Have pap, include protein, include vegetables, include your fiber. Be mindful of the portion of Pap is not the enemy of Pap is not the enemy of weight loss. Your overall habits are.
