wtf is this movie??? can we talk about how insane the end of oak street is? obvious spoiler warning, this is one of the craziest things i've seen in a movie theater in a while, and it's like almost kind of evil? now this entire movie is about the d word, divorce, not dinosaurs. anne hathaway, evan mcgregor are growing apart because he is sort of a sh*t head. he is hiding his drink from her, he's lying to her, as they're facing all the stuff with the dinosaurs. she's like leading the way, she's driving the car, she's got the gun. he runs in front of her at one point when they're running away from dinosaurs, he just seems awful. he recognizes this is false about the movie, he grows, and then he saves the day before he gets f***ing eaten by a dinosaur, which is an insane thing to have of this movie. you just don't know what is going on, but then in the end they reveal that we can save ewan mcgregor because when they come back to the future, the present, their current... 1982? they are there before the flash that sent them back. they can change what happens. so when anne hathaway calls up ewan mcgregor to get him to deliver a pizza out of the dangerous area to get zapped back to the prehistoric times, that's not the ewan mcgregor who changed. that's still the ewan mcgregor who is hiding his drinking from his wife, lying about losing his job, just generally being a s***y dad and husband, and the emotional arc here is not his, he has not changed, but anne hathaway has, she has fallen back because she's seen what he can do, that he can be better and be the person that she loved before. but that's not him. like, that's a different ewan mcgregor who hasn't who is presumably still drinking and still lying to her about the job that he lost. like, he's just going to continue being a sh*t head. like, he did not have the experience that changed him. and then a totally separate thing to show us right before the credits that there's now a clone of that girl is really funny. like, that's out of left field. that's a great addition to the universe of this movie. this thing is so silly, you're not supposed to really think about it, to enjoy it. and i really enjoyed it, but what the f*** was that ending? that's crazy. that's a bad ewan mcgregor ending. and the good ewan mcgregor is in the belly of a tyrannosaurus rex. i don't know, man, but i loved the movie, so let me know what you thought.
