This movie's gonna piss

This movie's gonna piss a lot of people off. Not because it's gonna be bad, it looks fantastic. It's one of the most visually arresting trailers I've seen in a very long time. Robert Pattinson is giving a pitch, perfect impression of Chris Hansen, and he's probably gonna get an Oscar nomination over it. But it's gonna make people upset because of what it asks you to do as the audience. You can get the sense of from the trailer that this movie is going to take the tack of the documentary, predators that came out a last year asking you to re-examine this cultural phenomenon that was to catch a predator and to is as black and white as it wanted us to believe. This show was entertainment masquerading as justice, masquerading as news, but fundamentally, they just wanted to deliver an entertaining show. Often at the expense of making these cases actually prosecutable in the court of law, meaning that a lot of these people walked away after it, knowing now how they got caught and not to let it happen again. This show was never about justice. It was about entertainment at the expense of other people. It pretends to ask these questions about motivations and trying to understand them, but there's no intention to understand things there. This movie is about how multiple things can be true. People can be very, very bad doing awful things, and people trying to turn that into entertainment can be doing a very different, not comparable, but still bad thing. And this movie's gonna come at a really, really tough time for a lot of people because you have seen the resurgence of to catch a predator style programs right on this app. You've probably seen one before. Those are even less accountable than NBC's To Catch a Predator was. So I think this is going to be a fascinating movie, but I don't think everyone is ready for the going to see after this. And I don't think a lot of people are gonna approach it fairly, but I think you should keep an open mind. Check out the documentary if you haven't seen it, and let me know what you think.
