do you know why the tunes is called acme? it's not an acronym like some people think that stands for "a company that makes everything" in the real world. there were, before the real companies with this name. there are still some out there, but to understand it, you have to understand that this has sort of been lost to time. it's ancient knowledge that originated in... the yellow pages. if you don't know, before you could google to find a company or a person's phone number, you had to go into an actual physical book, a phone book, called the yellow pages. the yellow pages would have all of these companies categorized by what they did. and under that category, alphabetized. a bunch of companies realized that that system. if they picked a name for their company that was alphabetically first, they could jump ahead of all of their competitors. you're probably not gonna go to the middle of pick a random one. you're probably gonna pick the first one you see. so a bunch of them settled on the name acme. it's an ancient greek loan word. aikm that means pinnacle, acme or peak, the best. and this was a good name for a company because it denoted quality. you couldn't just be a nonsense word. it still had to be a real name because you were gonna do business. you couldn't just be in the yellow pages as one thing and something it had to be a real good name. you could be acme movers, acme contractors, acme window washers. and that would put you at the top of the category in the yellow pages. think of it like old timey search engine optimization. well, search engine also old timey. so i don't know if frame of reference, but you get the point. they were taking advantage of the system with that name. companies back in the day and there still are a lot today that have that name. that predated the looney tunes. Now when comes in is that if you need a company that would have a product that backfires spectacularly all the time, it's kind of funny to take a name that means the best.
