Unhinged things I do to save money. As a financially literate 28-year-old, unhinged things I do to save money. As someone who considers herself financially literate, things that I don't necessarily need to be doing, but they might be part of my mentality as to how I've been able to save and invest my money. I was sober for an entire year. Most of that motivation was health, wellness, second to that was saving money. Because I knew that I wouldn't be drinking and spending money, I wouldn't be spending money on Ubers everywhere. I wasn't going to be binge drinking on the weekends, so I wasn't going to rack up a bill. My sister and I all through high school and college used to cut each other's hair because we refused to go to a salon and pay upwards now of $100 for a haircut. So we taught ourselves how to do it ourselves that we could save money. I will eat before girls dinners. This one might be controversial because I am sitting at a restaurant and not eating anything, but I am totally okay telling the waiter, oh, sorry, no, I'm not eating tonight. The first thing I do when I look at a menu is find the cheapest thing. If I don't like it, then I go to the second cheapest thing. I am always hyper-aware of the prices on menus and prices for drinks and food. Leading off of that, I came from a no drinks, no appetizer family. So when I go to restaurants now, I still, most of the time, order water. I will never shop for clothes in store. Make a picture of it, I will go home and I will be tracking it for weeks. Can usually find it either listed on Depop, Poshmark, or I'll find a sale that that website is now running. A 15% off when you sign up for email. I will never buy something full price. Ever. And to piggyback on that, I have a very tight criteria on what I will spend my money on when it comes to clothes. I could probably count on my hand the amount of items of clothing wise that I have spent more than $150 on in the last five years. I will never buy a single event outfit or dresses. So if I'm going to a wedding or I have someone's birthday that has a theme or something, I will either borrow or ask a friend to borrow a dress. Also rent my clothes sometimes. So I'm not just single use, dropping $200, $300 on a dress. Those are just a few of the unhinged things I do to save money. Let me know if you guys also have unhinged ways that you save money, right?
