How to Use Your Phone in Europe

The first time I went to Europe, I came home to a $600 phone bill. So let me tell you what I do now. So your phone will work when you go abroad. The first time my husband and I went to Europe, we both had AT&T and we used our phones internationally and when we got home, a bill that's usually around $150 was $600 at a minimum. See what international day passes your phone carrier offers. It's usually about $12 a day and if you're going for a quick trip, it might actually be worth the the next time I traveled internationally was to Guatemala and my phone was completely paid off and unlocked. So I was able to use an app called Airalo. You basically download an eSIM directly onto your phone, choose where you're going and how long you're traveling and what kind of plan you want. And when you land, you'll see that instead of paying international fees from your carrier, just make sure your phone is unlocked and eSIM compatible and check whether the package you're buying is data only or includes calls and text. Now when you land, you can get a physical SIM card at the airport if you want a local Italian number or whatever European country you're going. You could buy a physical SIM card basically at the airport, but it does require additional setup after you land. And the last thing when I land is spend another 30 minutes in a line. I just want my Google Maps to work automatically on my way to baggage claim, you know what I mean? You know what I mean? Then I switched to T-Mobile. So one of the biggest selling plans for me is that my plan includes international data and text. And since I travel internationally pretty often, I thought this would be a really big benefit. But check your exact plan because the amount of data that's included varies. So to sum it up, it kind of depends. If you have a short trip and you don't want to think about it, look into your international daily plans from your current carrier. If you have a longer trip and an unlocked phone, then you can use apps that give you eSIMs. And if you're a frequent international flyer like me, I would maybe compare carriers, see what offers you can get.
