Regardless of how you were raised, it's your job to grow up. There comes a time when you have to stop using what happened back then to justify how you behave right now. Maybe nobody apologized in your house. Okay. That doesn't mean you get to hurt people and never say you're sorry. Maybe yelling was how everybody communicated. That doesn't mean you get to scream at people every time you're angry. And maybe affection wasn't freely given. That doesn't give you permission to spend the rest of your life being emotionally unavailable. Your childhood may explain where some of your behaviors came from, but at some point, you have to ask yourself, is what I learned back then still serving the person I want to be today? Because everything you learn growing up doesn't have to grow old with you. So your mindset shift. Understand your past, have compassion for what you went through. But don't build a house there. Because regardless of how you were raised, it's still your job to decide who you become. I'm just saying. Love you.
