Physical AI is always been the last frontier. Models can't train on them the same way they've been training on the internet, right? So the bet has been that startups could win by connecting AI and physical systems. Anthropic, they're not gonna touch that. They're big enough. They're big enough for them, right? Well damn. Oh damn. Were we wrong? They just shipped. Anthropic pushes into physical world with new standard to help AI agents operate machines. The largest Trojan horse yet. They're calling it the Model Hardware Standard. MHS. And it lets AI agents discover and operate any machine without anyone needing to write custom code for any of these different devices. And it's already out in the wild. Genentech, Carnegie Mellon, HHMI Janelia, QuEra, Universal Robots, Danaher, AWS, Raspberry Pi, and Hugging Face. Like Carnegie Mellon took four instruments that couldn't talk to each other and then ended up running a full drug dosing experiment in like 8 hours. Getting a vendor to set that up would have taken weeks. So let's talk about what's inside this Trojan horse. Because look, Anthropic sells tokens. And now we all know constraint is not intelligence. It's how many places the intelligence can reach. So connecting a machine to AI would take months. They would do it. So now they made that connection free. Open standard. Model agnostic. So it can run on anybody's model. That's not them just being generous. They're making sure microscope and robotic arm on Earth becomes a place that Claude tokens we've seen this movie before. MCP came out first. And Claude code. And security. Then legal. Then science. They standardize. Watch the data. And then they end up building the product for the highest ROI vertical. The MHS is going into the labs and Claude Science already exists. So the question is, how does a startup stay on their skis rather than just and waiting for the avalanche? Because the whole, we built connectors to the real world, that's not a moat anymore. Just being a feature. Which is, is own what the protocols can't see. Vision. Language models that are fine-tuned for specific environments. Proprietary sensor data and workflows. Into industries where these standards can't really follow.
