5 questions to ask yourself about your boyfriend and/or husband (I don't judge) to affirm that this is a safe and healthy relationship with a person who is good for you. Because I find that far too many women are in relationships seemingly to just be in a relationship. It gives you status in our society, you know? So sometimes it's good to check really quick and make sure that your relationship actually improves your life. Number 1. Can you trust this person to help you through a devastating personal loss, like the death of a parent, for example? Will they help you through your grief with compassion and understanding? Number 2. Does he treat strangers like waitstaff at a restaurant with care and compassion? The way that people treat strangers tells you a lot about who they are. Number 3. If your daughter dated a man just like him, how would you feel about that? Would you be worried? Would you want her to break up with him? Or if your son turned out just like him, how would you feel? Would that be good? Do you feel good thinking about that? Would you be proud of him? Number 4. What does this guy bring to the table that no one else can? What separates him from everyone else in the dating pool? This is a question that a friend of mine asked me when I was in an abusive relationship and it really woke me up because I realized I didn't have an answer. Number 5. Has he had any influential figures in his life that are women? Inspirations, people he looked up to like his mother or grandmother, an aunt, a cool teacher? It can be anyone. Literally any woman. This is important because a lot of men... don't, like, because they subconsciously don't see women as people with depth. They don't draw any inspiration from them. And this will reflect how he treats you, if not now, eventually. I'm willing to bet that you had influential figures in your life that were men, so he should have at least one that was a woman.
