Standing on top of 700 meters of flooded tunnels… 🏴⛏️ Penallta Colliery in Hengoed was once one of the deepest, most dangerous coal mines in Europe. Over 3,000 men worked down here in total darkness, hauling thousands of tons of coal every week to power the world. In 1991, the engines went silent for good. Today, modern homes sit right beside the derelict red-brick ruins, while the old slag heaps have been transformed into Parc Penallta—home to "Sultan", a massive 200-meter earth sculpture built to honor the pit ponies who spent their lives underground. Would you explore these old ruins alone at night? Drop your thoughts below! 👇 #industrialrevolution ##historytok#welshhistory #welshtiktoker#parcpenalltaes
